Tennis and work and such like

First day of the holidays and I was at work till 2.45 pm. Didn't quite get finished last week.

However, cards like this one are a great compensation. How nice - not only that he felt like that but that he bothered to say so. (I don't get messages like this every week; hence my great appreciation when they do come.)

Can't stay around; Andy Murray isn't doing as well as he might against Stanislaw Wawrinka and though I can't bear to watch, I can't bear to stop watching either.

  1. How nice! None of my students gave me a thank you card. Hmmmppphhh. I guess I didn't transform their lives. Ha!

No, really, that is very sweet. It is nice to be appreciated, isn't it?

  2. (the other Rachel)

Nice to have a card of appreciation! Good for you.

I'm not watching tennis at all - too reminiscent of compulsory sports at school, and I have no capacity to deal with suspense of any kind, so it would be a weird mixture of boredom and intense stress. Best avoided.

  4. OR nurses are never remembered to be thanked. But I got one from a patient whose case was cancelled that I'd stayed with as the decision was being made. He sent a card of thanks, and I still treasure that.

  7. I'm sure that it's little things like this which make it all worth while for so many people - and a reminder to us all to take the time to say thank you when we appreciate what someone has done for us - only takes a minute but can last a lifetime! Z xx

  8. How good to receive a note like that! These things do matter a lot, don't they? Sometimes it's an uphill struggle to continue trying to be humane and caring as well as conscientious in a society/ workplace culture/ education system that values only what can be measured quantitatively. And then something like that puts it all back into perspective.

So Isabelle is not the name that people know you by in offline life, then? :-)

  9. Awwwww...that's so sweet! One of the little boys in storytime gave me a bouquet of flowers and a thank you card when the spring session ended. It's so lovely to be appreciated, isn't it?
