I have at last finished the railway quilt I've been making (at his request) for Mr Life. He's a great railway buff. Again, it's very simple compared to anything that proper quilters would do but it still took me months. One thing I like about making a quilt is that it's unique: not necessarily uniquely good... but different in its combinations of colours and fabrics from any other quilt that anyone else has made.
He requested that I quilt railway lines, with sleepers, round the border. (Don't look too closely. Wood is a natural material and so a little unevenness is to be expected.)
I'm already planning my next four quilts. See what you've got me into, Thimbleanna!
It's quite springlike here at the moment. Yesterday we went for a walk along the Water of Leith in the sunshine.
There were crocuses blooming
and lots of snowdrops. Sorry, Australia, but we're starting to pull the sun back round this side.
I absolutely love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job Pam! I love the sleepers around the borders. I'm sure Mr. Life loves it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the quilt finish. Its colours are just right. I think very soon you will have to admit to being a REAL quilter.
ReplyDeleteI am sure a quilt with lots of traffic lights and road signs would be a winner with a certain young man.
I'm betting the quilt has been very well received as it's fab. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh!!! It's perfect! Your comment about the wood made me laugh. And the track quilting is brilliant -- really clever and amazing. I'm SO PROUD!!! ;-D I agree with everything Ali said -- perhaps a quilt with stoplights in your future? And You ARE A Real Quilter!!! WooHoo!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is incredible!! I love trains too, and so did my late husband. We are trying to get spring here too, after a winter blast of snow last week. Ugh. We aren't set up for that kind of weather in the normally temperate Pacific Northwest. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely quilt! It looks warm and welcoming - I know how much work there is in hand quilting but it gives such a nice finish. I just saw your comment on your friendship lived in Carmel - astonishing to think that someone would actually live there! It seemed more like it was just a place to visit, although very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat s meant to say "friend who lived in" 😊
ReplyDeleteQuilt is a total winner. Bravo!!
ReplyDeleteSpring is not showing its face here....but I feel that it is bubbling under. The snowdrops are peeking out and other blooms not far around the corner...I can feel the earth warming up too and the birds are tweeting that little bit louder. Yay!!
Oh, this quilt is beyond wonderful! What a great idea your husband had about the quilting, too. I love your comment about wood being natural. Your "spring" photos make me sigh. It will be quite a while before we see anything like that around here, well into April. (But it is a brilliantly sunny day, so I must not complain.)Be well, you and your family.
ReplyDeleteRubbish - you are a real quilter! what a delightful quilt and I agree with the good idea your husband had for the quilting.
ReplyDeleteFrom Australia - after literally several weeks of above 37C, including some days over 40C, I think you are welcome to some of our heat!
I think your quilt is quite lovely.... good job you! I hope Mr. Life likes it. I am so tempted to become a Scot and live there. Your winters are so gentle compared to ours here in the Chicago area.....
