This and that

I was marking the register: checking faces and muttering names.

Harvey [to James]: Hey, give me my notepad back! [Grabs it.] Oh, you’ve drawn a – look what you’ve drawn! My mum might see that!

James: [grabbing it back]: Oh, give it here. It’s all right; I’m just changing it into an elephant.

But that was yesterday. Today is the first day of the holidays and I have:

spoken on the phone to an ex-student, who's now training to be a primary school teacher, about an essay she has to do; taken my mother to the doctor; been to the pharmacy to collect her prescription; had another phone conversation with the same ex-student, who was still anxious; gone to pick up my aunt to take her to my mum’s for lunch; had lunch with my mum and aunt; taken my aunt home again; had a brisk walk round the Botanic Gardens; bought our and my mum’s weekly groceries at the supermarket; taken my mum’s shopping to her house; come home and unpacked ours; prepared a meal and fed it to Mr Life, Daughter 2 and also Son and his girlfriend, who’re here for a very rare weekend. It’s lovely to see him but he’ll be away before we know it.

The cats have done none of these things.
I have a cold. And am tired. And am off to have a bath.

  1. Hope you feel better soon. Amazing how a whole day can just disappear - but you did an awful lot of things for a lot of people - maybe tomorrow should be just for you? Take care Z xx

  2. Doodling elephants instead of doodling...well..doodles. Ingenious.

    Enjoy your holidays!

  3. Really does help, to have those curious little eyes waiting at home for one.

  4. You sound so busy, and I hope you have some time for yourself too, and that your cold gets better. That rhododendron is superb - is that from your garden? Spring seems to have arrived very suddenly. All the daffodils and crocuses look wonderful. In my garden the Japanese anemones are flowering, and from now on there won't be much to see.

  5. I hope there is some time in the holiday where you can have a bit of a rest?
Holidays can be more demanding than work.

  6. I spent Friday in bed being looked after by SB from whom I caught the bug in the first place, so you have been way more productive than I have (if that's any consolation)

  7. Yay!!! Son is home for a visit! You need a rest -- I hope you have a nice relaxing holiday. The catlets are looking happy and content -- as I type Scruff and Paul are wrestling on the floor and one of them is squeaking -- being two boys they get a bit rough!

  11. Hello dear Isabelle. Yes, I'm still alive! So sorry to be delinquent for so long. I've really missed visiting. Not sure what I've been doing either....but I've enjoyed catching up with you :)
I'm glad you had a nice lunch with your mum and aunt, but sorry you're not feeling well. I hope you've had time to relax and recuperate by now.
Your mum looks wonderful for her age :)
Spring has sprung beautifully in your garden and all those bulbs are looking cheery and colourful. Love that flowering tree!
My daffs are about to pop open any day, but it seems Mother Nature doesn't want to spoil us by giving us too much warmth all at once.
Your kids did a bit of spoiling for Mother's Day I see. That necklace is so sweet.
    Happy spring and happy hols!

  12. I hope you took the kittys to the bath with you.

    As a special treat.

For all the chores they do.

You should think of getting a canine friend, Isabelle.

  14. No wonder you are tired! It seems you do more on your 'days off' than when you go to work!

  15. You are one busy lady, I didn't know there were that many hours in a day to do what you did, you need to soak in the bathtub for awhile. Hope you have a nice Easter.

  16. Gosh Isabelle, when you put it like that...as I said on my blog recently, one feels like Atlas, carrying the world on his shoulders! My sympathies are with you, dear friend.
And a cold on top of it all, poor girl. My Ken stayed in bed all day today, coughing and sniffing. Just as well his Mum isn't here right now, but I am, so I'm planning to sleep in the spare bedroom tonight so he's not breathing his germs all over me. I hope Mr Life is kinder than that to you!
