And so it's 2018. Since my last post, we had some snow which lay a couple of days. Grandson, down south with his other grandparents (where there was no snow), mourned, "It always doesn't snow where we are."
The ice froze on Inverleith Pond, which must have been annoying for the ducks. When I was at school we had to play hockey near here (I was never fond of team games; why would one care who won?) and once, when the ground was too frozen to play, we were taken here to slide on the ice. Granted, this was when the world was a colder place but all the same it's fairly unbelievable now. I'm not sure what would have happened if the ice had cracked. It's not a deep pond but we'd have got very wet and muddy.
And then the grandchildren returned and enjoyed playing with their new toys - and I enjoyed watching them. Grandson has remote control trains for his Brio and REALLY likes them.
Happy 2018, everyone. Let's hope for a more sensible year.
They're threatening us with snow for tomorrow. Where's global warming when you need it.
ReplyDeleteAs you saw, we had snow (quite a bit of it) for Christmas and it was magical. Even at our ages, we had a snowball fight in my parents' driveway. :) Hoping for some sanity in the world, especially here in the US. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for 2018 to you and yours, too. Sensible isn't too much to hope for, is it?
ReplyDeletenow you see it...
ReplyDeleteyou've had more than us westwards.
thats an impressive train system!
Brio has electric trains? I must get ours out again. Granddaughter might like it.
ReplyDeleteLucille - yes, it does. Amazon sell them, and they're fairly reasonably priced and seem well-designed. It's worth reading the reviews to make sure you get the slightly more powerful ones as they eat fewer batteries (the better ones typically take AA batteries rather than AAA).
ReplyDeleteYep, it's me again catching up on your delightful blog, one of half a dozen that I read these days. (I used to read about 50!) Sorry to hear you were so sick on Christmas Day, just as well you didn't have a house full of visitors though! I am well, bladder cancer fixed and gone, all going well. Turning 70 this year, can't be sick for that!
ReplyDeleteBoy, those little brio trains have sure advanced since the version that we have stored in our attic. Should we be lucky enough to have a grandson someday, we might have to get a few upgraded cars. And Grandson is welcome to come for a visit -- we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground -- it's been bitterly cold though -- too cold to play outside!
