Coming and going

And so that was Christmas. The cake was decorated by Daughter 2, featuring initialled stockings for all fourteen of us. Grandson insisted on eating the bit of cake with his stocking on it.

Our offspring, their spouses and my brother and his family were all here: ten of us staying in the house, four visiting. The wonderful news came by telephone that Son-in-Law 1's lovely brother and his wife are expecting a baby in June - a cousin for Grandson and Granddaughter.

The children enjoyed their new toys (and the adults got lovely presents too).

There were lots of cuddles...

... and stories.

Our son and his wife went out for two muddy runs...

... while the rest of us contented ourselves with more leisurely outings.

Grandson got a carry on Son's shoulders for the last part of the walk.

However, today it's only my brother and his wife who are left with us. We did some much-needed hoovering and dusting this morning while they were out visiting friends and then we all went to the BP portrait exhibition, which was as usual extraordinarily good.

It's certainly less work producing food for four than for fourteen... but the house seems very quiet. On the other hand, also tidy.

  1. Sounds like a very happy Christmas. we're always guests, not hosts at Christmas, which means less cleaning up (there is still some from cooking stuff to bring and lending a hand on the day) but then again, no delicious leftovers either.

I hope you had a great anniversary too -- ours was spent in the car on the 16 hour drive -- glad that's over! And now, on to the New Year -- a new cousin and what other wonderful surprises? Happy New Year Sweet Isabelle!!!
