In the slightly chilly midwinter...
Another walk with the walking group, this time round and about North Berwick.
You might not think that a seaside walk in Scotland in December would be ideal, and it was a little windy, but not really cold.
I've often thought I'd like to retire to North Berwick, which is east of Edinburgh, but then it would be more difficult to see the family. In another life, maybe... .
I do like being beside the sea.
This is the entrance to the Sea Life Centre, which has a nice cafe, but we had mulled wine and mince pies on the seats outside instead. We like roughing it, but only to a certain extent.
You can't go wrong with a photo of boats.
And off again, along the beach, along the edge of the golf course and back into the town to have Christmas dinner: thus replenishing our dangerously low calorie levels.

Our D.E. Stevenson group was here in 2010. Their family spent the month of August in North Berwick every summer when she was growing up and one of her books is mostly set there. Lovely memories, though probably it was more fun in June than December!
ReplyDeleteHow far away is North Berwick?
ReplyDeleteDo be careful of those dangerously low calorie levels, they can play havoc with your ability to walk further!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have the coast so near - and mulled wine, mince pies and turkey readily available too!
ReplyDeleteSounds heavenly...no work...walking by the sea...food and drink....mmm.
ReplyDeleteIt's about 25 miles away. Though of course it's the same sea (actually wide estuary) as in Edinburgh.
ReplyDeleteSo very picturesque. And much nicer than suburban North Berwick in Melbourne! About 50 times nicer in fact.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a walker at all but having had a dodgy knee for a few weeks I'm beginning to wish I could go out for a long walk. It's the first time in my life I've thought this way .....
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos! It looks like a wonderful place to visit! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of having a walking group. And funny -- somehow I imagine K's location to be about mid-way between you and Berwick, so that it wouldn't matter if you were to move there. She must be much closer to your current location.
ReplyDeleteShe's about 6 miles away. Berwick, now, is much further (60 miles?) but this is North Berwick. Quite different.
ReplyDeletemulled wine and mince pies... by the sea. sounds perfect, even on a windy December day.
ReplyDeleteO I love winter walks. I love, love, love, love winter walks! I do like the idea of mulled winter walks...
