Mr Life gets cake

Happy birthday plus two days, Mr Life! It's now about 46 years since we met. I can't remember exactly when it was, because I just gradually became aware of you around other young folk locally. We started going out in December 1967 and that was more or less it. We've been married for 37 and a bit years. And I still love you. Thank you for being so supportive. I have no idea why you like watching DVDs about steam trains but on the other hand, you don't complain that I sit blogging so - whatever makes you happy.

Daughter 2 is back in London now. She had her first wedding dress fitting on Saturday morning. Or at least, the dressmaker put what looked like a calico sack on her, fiddled about with some pins and - hey presto, look out Kate Middleton. Daughter 2'll be back in three weeks to try on the resulting dress. But we miss her so much. Just as well the old chap and I have each other.

And in eight or so weeks, we should have Daughter 1's baby son. Well, strictly speaking she'll have him. But anyway - we're so looking forward to meeting him!

  5. Belated happy birthday wishes 'Mr Life'! Your family's faces are well known to your bloggy friends, but your real names must be the best kept secret in Blogland, Isabelle. I know all my other blog friends by their real names now and I still grin to myself when I remember your post admitting that Isabelle was not your real name!

  9. Hello Isabelle, I last posted on my own blog way back in 2007 and stopped reading blogs about the same time. I was recently wondering about becoming a blogger again and wondered if you were still out there blogging away! And here I find you again. Wonderful to see life is good for you.

I'm off to catch up on what you've been doing the last 4 years!

    Els

  10. Happy birthday to Mr Life, and what a a lovely photo of him. It shows very clearly that he is greatly loved - and loveable.
The other family photos are beautiful too.
I hope the making of the wedding dress proceeds well. Such an exciting time for them, and for the parents and grandparents to be.
I think mine have all stopped reproducing. There is a lot of joy in store for you.

  11. Belated happy birthday Mr Life. I like steam train DVDs too, I hope you got some new ones for your birthday. Have you got Mark Williams' 'On the rails'? It's great, the photography's gorgeous, the history's interesting, and he's a really funny, enthusiastic presenter. Also Geoffrey Jones' 'Rhythm of Film'? It's not exactly of trains but on them... really atmospheric.
