We took the low road

(As ever, Blogger selects one photo to make large. Why???). Anyway, yesterday we went for a walk round St Mary's Loch. It was cold but - sometimes - sunny, though it did occasionally drop little bits of hail down on us.

Luckily it wasn't windy, as you can see by the relatively calm water.

This is a pretty little church that overlooks the loch.

About five miles on, we were still fairly energetic.

There were lots of little lambs, kept at safe distance from us by their mums.

And after seven miles we got back to the car park, where - there was planning involved here - we had coffee and cake in the café. It was such a lovely day out: hills, water, good friends, nice chat (and also, at one point, slightly too-interested cows which had trampled the path into very muddy mud  - but we'll forget about that).

  1. Beautiful pics and you are NOT going to want to hear this, but your autobiography was printed on the right half of the big picture. (on my screen) Why, Blogger, why??

  2. Little bits of hail!!! That sounds like an endurance walk ... but it does look very pretty. Amazing how good company helps. I read this on an iPad and all the photos were perfectly sized. Technology, can't live with it, can't shoot it.

Lovely. I do so wish that I could still walk more than several metres.

  4. It really is beautiful, isn't it? I couldn't believe it when I took a bus along there, about 23 years ago now, on the way to Iona.

As the post moves down, of course, your sidebar biography will stay where it is, so it won't always be superimposed on the photo like that, which actually, I think looks rather classy, but anyway. I don't quite know how you post, but when you upload photos into the post editor box, if you click on them in there you get options for how you want them to appear in a kind of blue toolbar thing below them: the sizes are small-medium-large-extra large- actual size. (Then there are positional ones - left/centre/right, and the option to add a caption). I think for your template you probably want the photos at medium, you might be able to get large in, but extra-large is what I think you've got there, and too big for your blog layout, and 'actual size' is enormous, being the real number of mpix your camera takes them at. If you want to post them extra-large, as I do, you have to play about with the 'customise html' option for the template, which was quite complicated and I can't remember how I did it and probably wouldn't ever be able to do it again.

    Good luck!

  7. We walked around St. Mary's Loch in `98 and my son and husband had a race to the top of that hill...My knees would not put up with such goings on even then, but it was fun to watch them.

  8. And, as always, I want to be there. Instead ... I must go to work. {Insert very sad face here.} I love your walks -- they're always beautiful!

  9. Sorry, for some reason I didn't look beyond the title and thought it was Loch Lomond! It doesn't look much like it really except it's all Scottishly beautiful!
