A winter's day

Granddaughter Elder and I went to the Botanics. We had lunch in the café.

"What about an egg sandwich?" I suggested.

She thought about this. Then she said helpfully, "What about - a cake?"

She was very busy. She swung on the low branch of her favourite tree.

She chatted to a robin.

She watched moorhens on the pond.

She looked at seagulls in the sky.

She kicked...

... the dry leaves.

Granny had a wonderful afternoon. (And Granddaughter Elder got her cake.)

  3. A lovely winter's tale! To paraphrase a saying over here "Life's short. Eat cake first."

  4. You did! My 19month grandson said "Please" to me spontaneously for the first time yesterday - I introduced him to cherries (halved and de-stoned, of course) and he came back instantly and asked for "More grapes", so I explained the difference between the two and put grapes and cherries halves and some banana on his plate. It was emptied with great speed and over he came and said "More cherries please".... and that please got him exactly what he wanted! Isn't it exciting when they make leaps like that!

  6. Cake is a compulsory element of any Granny/Granddaughter expedition I find. She's looking so grown-up in these photos.

  8. I loved her carefully thought out retort, "what about a cake". Better than an egg sandwich to a young girl!

  9. At first I read "Granddaughter Elder" and thought "who is Granddaughter Elder???" Duh. She's getting SO big -- what a little cutie. I knew I loved her -- a girl who wants cake and isn't afraid to ask LOL. And you too -- for getting her CAKE!!! XO
