The Saturday before Christmas

Well, the fairy never turned up so I donned my pink net tutu (and I have to tell you, it's a bit chilly here for that sort of garb) and hied me up town. Things went much better this week, although if you happen to be a very large lady, I can tell you that there's a good choice of pyjamas in every pyjama shop for you. Hardly a single smaller pair, though....

Moving on: I'd left Mr Life to carry out a separate mission or two. These included retrieving the Christmas tree from where it had been unceremoniously dumped in the back garden last week after he went to fetch it; and then putting it up and stringing it with lights. Well done, Mr Life, apart from the point at which you shut yourself out of the house without your keys.

He then phoned me to enquire when I was coming home and could let him in. This was just at the moment when I was inserting my Marks and Spencer's card into the machine to pay for [mumble mumble] and my stress at the thought of him freezing to death - his stiffened corpse found on the doorstep as I returned, burdened with bags, from my mission - made me get my pin number wrong. However, I pulled myself together and keyed in the right number - but it was rejected. I tried again - rejected again, and the card locked. I was mildly indignant, but then it occurred to me that I could always pay with money, so I did.

It was some time later that I realised that I'd typed my Visa card number in, instead of the Marks and Spencer one.

I blame Mr Life.

(He didn't die. He went up to my mother's and borrowed her spare key. I knew you'd want to be reassured of that.)

Alas, those parcels at the top are Google's, not mine. Mine wrapped? Not as such. But still - things are progressing. Kind of.

  1. So glad to hear Mr Life is still with us. We're now snow bound here so if I've forgotten any presents they may not happen now!
However, despite the ungritted steep lane that our car won't attempt, the Ocado man drove right to our door - snow tyres he tells me - we may all need them at this rate.
Don't get too chilly in that tutu.

  2. So many PIN numbers, passwords, keys..... I always wonder about those poor souls who get kidnapped and marched to cashpoints by criminals in order to withdraw and hand over their life savings. I could never remember my PIN number in such circumstances, could you? I doubt if I could remember my name.....

  3. Oh that's a relief. Mr. Dead or Mr. Frozen Stiff or Mr.Deceased, just doesn't have the same ring to it as Mr.Life!

  5. Ali wins the blog comment award! I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven if my Mr. Life would put the lights on the tree -- Mr. Life is an angel. Sounds like you had a bit of two steps forward, one step back, but at least the end result was forward motion. Well done you two!

  6. A gift you could give each other.....one of those fake stones with a compartment for a spare key. But then you have to remember which stone in the rockery is the fake one - not ideal in several inches of snow.

  7. I offered my Nectar card to the checkout assistant at M & S the other day. She was very nice about it, but I felt a fool. No change there, though.

  10. Happy to hear that Mr. Life is not frozen solid and your card is not frozen, either. :) Wrapped presents a week before Christmas?! With no fairy at hand?! What a silly thought. ;) I don't know too many people who had, last weekend, all their parcels wrapped and organized for google's photos. :) Merry Christmas!! I hope everyone arrives safely!
