Flowers

The horrible news about Brussels is so depressing that I'm posting pictures of flowers in a lalala, not listening sort of way. I apologise for my feebleness.

On February 14, I took a photo, above, of a £3 bunch of roses I'd bought from the local supermarket. I'd had them for a couple of days at that point.

These photos, above and below, are the same flowers, today, over five weeks later.

That's slightly hard to believe, isn't it? But the evidence is there in my photo albums. What good value! One of them is starting to go slightly brown at the edges but the rest look fine. I find that cutting roses short is the key to making them last, but it doesn't normally work this well.

And the city parks are full of spring flowers. So I suppose you just have to keep hoping.

  2. Horrible news but lovely flowers. I can NEVER get roses to last that long, so I appreciate the tip. On a personal level I have a beloved former exchange student at my school from Belgium, so I texted him as soon as I could. And my older daughter is stuck in Dakar, and will soon be stuck in Charles de Gaulle, trying to get a flight out to the US. Lots of flights delayed or cancelled due to the closure of the Brussels airport. :(

  3. I too am in the 'fingers in ears lalala' camp at the moment..reality is too horrible to focus on. Lovely roses...that have really lasted well.

  4. FB's godfather's partner went through Brussell's train station 10 minutes before.... Trying not to think about what could have been so looking at your photos of flowers instead. They're beautiful

Fingers in ears here, too. Focussing on flowers is much better in my opinion.

  6. Wow! That's amazing! I don't think we've ever had flowers that last that long. The daffodils are so pretty too -- they're one of my favorite flowers -- so happy. We have lots of them in the woods at Mom's and it looks like they'll bloom in a week or so -- I can't wait!
