Paintings

I went with a friend today to an exhibition of John Duncan Fergusson's paintings. He was one of the Scottish Colourists. There were some that we could happily have lived with, such as the one above. That would look very nice in my sitting room. Isn't the light reflected in the glass vase beautiful?

Then there were various others that - maybe not. This one is ENORMOUS. It reminds me faintly of my Zumba class... .

I do know that art isn't just about what would look good in the home. All the same, I prefer the restful flowers (though they're a bit botanically vague) to the alarmingly bouncy dancers.

  1. Slightly surprised/alarmed by the impression that you may be attending an outdoor, nude Zumba class. (Is it not a wee bit cold for that still in Edinburgh?)

  2. There are a few differences between the painting and our Zumba class.

  4. You're hysterical! So. Are you saying that you do Zumba in the nude??? ;-D Is this a new thing in Scotland that we don't know about??? And I heartily agree -- that first painting would be gorgeous in your sitting room!

  5. Fortunately for the world, no. T- shirt and trousers. (The rest of the class, however...).

  6. Art is not about what would look good in the home, or "above the couch". But I certainly tend to prefer what I'd enjoy living with. (And yes, I'm intrigued by my ideas of your Zumba class!)

  7. I always find it amusing when artists paint fat women who have tiny, narrow waists. Such is the stuff of fantasy.
