I'm busy doing nothing...

Granddaughter-the-Elder and I had another visit to the Botanics on Tuesday. We didn't get much past the café ("Let's have lunch, darling," she said) because she found a little friend to play with in the playhouse.

I love Edinburgh's skyline. You get the best view of it before all the leaves are on the trees.

Then today I visited my friend Joyce. These are the views of the Forth Bridges from her kitchen window. The one above is the rail bridge...

and this is the road bridge, with the as-yet-unfinished new (extra) road bridge behind it here.

She lives in South Queensferry, just outside the city. We wandered along the High Street,

which was built long before the days of cars...

and had coffee, looking out of the window of the café as we caught up with the news. Ah, the retired life.

And then we wandered back, watching a train crossing the bridge

and boats bobbing in the harbour.

(Meanwhile Granddaughter-the-Elder was at home singing a song, the chorus of which appeared to be, "Don't tie knots in my ears". An original piece, we think.)

  2. She is getting so grown up, seems like only yesterday she was a baby. I love being retired, don't know how I ever found time to work.

  5. Wait. Isn't that little High Street the place where you took me? And cute granddaughter lives near there? My imagination has her living in a completely different area LOL. She's so adorable -- I love that she calls you darling. It looks like the new bridge is coming along nicely!

  6. Oh, I don't think spending time with grandchildren and friends is "doing nothing". You are putting lots of good into the world. I'd love to know all the lyrics of your EGD's song! And I send good wishes for your husband and hope his health problems are being resolved. Be well!

  7. I will be exploring the retired life next year, and it scares me since I live by myself(except for the cat) and in suburbia. Your photos make me want to visit Scotland even more!

  8. "Let's have lunch, darling" - that girl knows all she needs to know about a happy retirement!

My sister - aged about 3 - was heard singing a long and mournful song of her own composition, of which the chorus went along the lines of "Crying down the hill, waiting for he mudder" (her mother). It became a family classic.....

  11. OHHH, so lovely to see the bridges again! I actually drove across the auto bridge, and we were fascinated with the construction of the new bridge... well, husband was - I was too busy watching traffic and adjusting to driving on the "other" side!
