Wheels

I went to the funeral of the lady in the cycling accident today. The funeral announcement asked all her cycling club friends to come on their bikes. And they did. If you click on the photo, you'll see some of the bikes locked to a bench which was brought out from the hall. And the church was packed with people of all ages, many in brightly coloured lycra (though most of them were still inside the church at the point that I took the photo).

It was a wonderful celebration of 75 years of energy and cheerfulness.

An energetic lady. It was a shame she died too young. Do you ride a bike ?

Well, I am able to ride a bike. Or I was. Haven't done it recently, though. Cycling in a city is a bit exciting... though we have lots of cycle paths.

Well, you are retired now Isabelle!Time to get fit so you can live longer and see that little grandson well into adulthood! Although, given the involvement of a bike in the energetic lady's untimely demise, I'd understand if you opted for something less dangerous, like Tai Chi or yoga! May she rest in peace. I'd bet that was the way she'd have chosen to go---quickly and doing something she loved.....

How neat to see all of the bikes. This is very sad, but it sounds as if she lived a very full like.

Good of you to go... looks like a lot of folks came to see her off on the big ride.

How touching. My friend's SIL was a well-known labrador breeder and show judge, and when she died, the lane to the church was jam-packed with cars, each with one or more labradors in or beside it. So lovely.

What a touching memorial to the lady bike-rider. We had a close friend killed in a bike accident and it's all just so sudden. And really, I can't say anything better than Molly did (as always! ;-) ), so I'll shut up now.

Lycra at a funeral is a new one. Why not? A very fitting tribute (sorry - totally unintentional pun, but I'll leave it in anyway).

I found the sight of all those bikes very touching.
