Lockdownish week 16 - Sunday - Grannying

And then there are days like today, when I took the Edinburgh Two to Lauriston Castle. After a picnic lunch, they had such fun in the gardens. They looked at the view and discussed the geography of what they could see,

such as the tidal nature of the estuary, the position of Cramond Island and the proximity of the hills of Fife on the other side.

They ran through the long grass,

played in the Japanese Garden and got me to time them in running circuits of it. I doubt if they'll ever be athletes but they enjoyed it.

Grandson considered the construction of these waterways and islands and he and Granddaughter hopped over the stepping stones. And both children were such fun and so companionable and full of life.

Then we came home and played with Brio

before Biggest Granddaughter decided to have an auction of various bits and pieces which she gathered from around the house. Big Grandson and I were the customers. She auctioneered with great style ("Any more bids? Going, going, GONE!") while her brother bid millions of pounds for small glass objects "but it's ok because I'm going to sell them to a museum for more."

Such a lovely day!

  1. What a fabulous Granny day! It sounds perfect. I'm envious of your weather. New York is beautiful, but the hot and humid weather makes me so uncomfortable. Your grandchildren are delightful. I liked them very much. Also, you can't go through long grasses like that here or you're likely to pick up a tick or two.

  3. How delightful to spend time with them again. They're such delightful and interesting children. But it seems like yesterday they were tiny - and they're definitely not now. We blinked! You definitely have the best Brio collection In.The.World! So glad you're back with them.

  4. I'm so happy to read about your wonderful day with your grandchildren! You have wonderful places to go with them, but perhaps back to your home is the nicest. I hope they are always such good friends.

  5. Your grandson has the right idea, if not the right frugality. Tell him: buy low, sell high, and forget museums - try ebay!

  6. Gosh, L's hair has got so long - and they've both got tall. Grandaughter was here yesterday 'helping' in the garden - nice to have a bit of normality after weeks of waving through a window or shouting through the door.
